| SeroJetTM
 The
SeroJet™ is a needle-free injection system for delivering Serostim™
recombinant human growth hormone for treatment of HIV-associated
wasting in adults. HIV-associated wasting is a metabolic condition in
which people infected with HIV lose body weight. If not treated, this
could result in increased morbidity and mortality. Serono developed
Serostim® to treat this condition by utilizing the natural properties
of growth hormone in increasing lean body mass.
SeroJet ™ is a customized version of Bioject’s Vitajet®
needle-free injection system. The system includes customized dosage
features to accurately deliver variable doses of Serostim™.
The SeroJet ™ received FDA market clearance for delivering subcutaneous
injections of Serostim™ in March
2001.
The SeroJet™ works by the same principle as all of Bioject’s
needle-free injection systems: by forcing liquid medication through
a tiny orifice that is held against the skin. This creates a very fine,
high-pressure stream of medication that penetrates the skin, depositing
medication in the tissue beneath.
Unique Injector Design
The SeroJet™ injector is designed with durable construction for
years of reliable use in home-based settings. Each device is thoroughly
tested and rated to deliver over 3,000 injections. The SeroJet™
was ergonomically designed for right or left handed users.
Energy Source
The SeroJet™ is energized by an internal spring. Springs are an
effective and economical power source for subcutaneous injections, and
because they are reusable, they do not create waste. The spring is compressed
by the user by winding the device before each injection in a simple
procedure described in the SeroJet™ instruction manual. The spring
never comes in contact with the medication.
Easy to Use
Using the SeroJet™ to deliver injections is easy. The system requires
no maintenance or re-assembly. The disposable nozzles and stem tips
are replaced with each use of the SeroJet™. This offers the quality
of a reusable medical product, with the convenience and safety of a
sterile disposable. The exclusive, easy-to-read Crystal View™
disposable nozzle and stem tip set allows you to inspect the dosage
prior to injection, and visually confirm loading and full discharge
of the dose after each use.
The SeroJet™ utilizes a simple-to-use "snap-on and click" design
that requires no tools or assembly. The sterile nozzle and vial connector
click into place in seconds, indicating to the patient that engagement
is complete.
Just follow these simple steps:
- Wind the device to energize the spring
- Draw medication into the Clear View™ nozzle. Dosage settings
are quick and convenient with our easy-to-read, large numbered dosage
scale.
- Using firm pressure at the injection site, hold the injector at
a 90° angle
- Press the blue actuator button
